Eisenhower Eats

Ike's great-granddaughter recommends a diet not far removed from Cathar or Vedic practice to facilitate contact with sky beings.

This could prompt us to reflect deeply on the mysterious resonances between religious revelations spanning the centuries, or perhaps to enjoy an amusing piece of fluffy journalism with a condescending smirk on our smug faces.

On the Sixth Day, God Was Confused

Scientists have created a new life form, a third of which they do not understand.

Clever Science Man Says We're All Doomed

Stephen Hawking has warned a schoolboy that the human race will surely face global disaster, "in the foreseeable future."  Whether by means of genetically-engineered viruses, nuclear war, or global warming, we stand a reasonable chance of being wiped out entirely thanks to our own overreaching hubris.

"Most of the threats we face come from the progress we’ve made... We are not going to stop making progress," opined Hawking.

Stephen Hawking is a professor.

How Bill Gates Is Causing the Collapse of Traditional Farming and Local Food Economies

I want you to reimagine Africa as a vibrant continent where farmers are in control of their seed systems, are proud of their knowledge systems, share seeds from generation to generation through the age-old practice of exchange where they are self-reliant on a huge diversity of seeds under their control, where women play an important role in production decisions, seed selection, and breeding — and where our local food economies find their roots.

Scientist Who Discovered GMOs Cause Tumors in Rats Wins Landmark Defamation Lawsuit in Paris

The jury is still out on GMO safety to say the very least, just as countless independent scientists have warned, and Séralini’s study stands as yet another cause for concern with the ongoing GMO experiment. It also shows the lengths that the Biotech industry will go to in order to discredit any independent science that clashes with their own version of science.

Syngenta Now Patenting Natural Foods with No GM Biotechnology

There is nothing about this process that is proprietary to Syngenta. It has been used by farmers for millennia through the simple observation of their crops. Certain strains of plants are known to adapt to the region in which they are grown over time. It has been happening for millennia.

Canadian Risk Assessment Finds GMO Salmon Susceptible to Disease

"'The modus operandi at FDA is to rubber stamp AquaBounty’s flawed and biased studies and then call its review process 'science-based,''' said Jaydee Hanson, Senior Policy Analyst at the Center for Food Safety. 'FDA's inadequate risk assessment is at odds with reality, with science and with the public, which has long called on the agency to put consumers' health and environmental safety ahead of the corporate interests of the biotechnology industry.'"

Is Genetically Engineered Food A Fraud?

"I never use the term 'frankenfood.' I’d rather not throw around names. The other side throws names around, branding people who have concerns about GMOs as 'anti-science' or 'Luddites.' Instead of talking about middle ground, I think it's important to talk about the scientific ground and the evidence-based ground. Too many of the proponents of GMOs are not speaking as scientists, but as spin-doctors."

The Propaganda Campaign in Support of Genetically Modified Crops

"Paterson has a history of engaging in the type of emotional blackmail and smearing of critics that comes second nature to the pro-GMO lobby. Anyone (usually portrayed as affluent Westerners – which is not true, given many of the critics are not ‘Western’, affluent or reside in ‘developed’ countries) who opposes GM crops or food is painted as an enemy of the poor because they take food from their bellies. Paterson is using a rhetorical device deliberately designed to mislead and stir up emotion. His tactics are based on spurious claims about the efficacy of GMO technology and are intended to divert attention away from the true nature and causes of hunger and food poverty."

Controversial DNA startup wants to let customers create creatures

“It is the most powerful technology humans have ever created,” Heinz said. “Hydrogen bombs can destroy whole planets, but this is a technology that can create planets. This is the greatest human achievement of all time — the ability to read and write life, because that’s who we are.”
